Rupa Wong, MD is an Ivy League trained board certified pediatric ophthalmologist and adult strabismus surgeon, wife, mom to 3 kids, entrepreneur, and the managing partner of Honolulu Eye Clinic for the past 15 years.

She is passionate about combining lifestyle modifications and evidence based medicine to help her patients enjoy their best vision possible.

Dr. Rupa has helped thousands of patients in her practice and via her social media channels (Youtube, Instagram, and Tiktok) empowering them to gain greater control over decisions affecting their eye health.

Leadership In Ophthalmology

Caring for patients and educating them online are not the only ways that Dr. Wong can advance research and advocacy of myopia control. She is also extremely involved with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus and helps guide these professional organizations.

Dr. Wong serves as Spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She was also selected for the Leadership Development Program for the AAO and sits on the Orbital Gala Committee - the fundraising committee for the non-profit arm of the Academy. In addition, she serves on the Foundation Advisory Board for AAPOS, is Vice-Chair of the Digital Media Committee for AAPOS, and serves on the Socio-Economic Committee for AAPOS as well.

Dr. Rupa has co-authored a definitive textbook on strabismus surgery with colleagues from Boston Children’s Hospital and has published scientific articles and abstracts as well.

She has given numerous talks on the topics of myopia management, inclusive leadership, social media branding and work life balance to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Women in Ophthalmology, Hawaii Optometric Association, American Academy of Pediatrics – Hawaii Chapter. She is on the Executive Advisory Team for YoungMD Connect, an organization geared towards mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists.

She enjoys utilizing her social media platforms to bring eye health awareness to all.

About Dr. Rupa

From East Coast to Hawaii.

Dr. Rupa Wong is co-founder and managing partner of Honolulu Eye Clinic, a boutique eye clinic in Honolulu, Hawaii. Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, she was easily drawn to the beautiful island of Oahu. She is board-certified in ophthalmology and fellowship-trained in Pediatric Ophthalmology and adult Strabismus. Dr. Wong also serves as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine.

Dr. Rupa attended Duke University on the prestigious Benjamin N. Duke academic leadership and National Merit Scholarships. She graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Biology and a minor in Religion.

She received her Medical Degree at Cornell University, followed by a Residency in Ophthalmology at New York University-Manhattan  Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, serving as Chief Resident in her final year. She completed a specialized fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus at Harvard’s Boston Children’s Hospital. She served on the faculty of Boston Children’s Hospital for 1 year prior to moving to Hawaii.

Dr. Rupa Wong has been named to the “Top Doctors” and “Best Doctors” lists every year since 2010, even gracing the cover back in 2012. She loves serving her Hawaii patients.

Her non-profit work exemplifies her commitment to children in the community, as well as medical education, and includes serving on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii, Make A Wish Hawaii, YoungMD Connect, and Association for Healthcare in Social Media, for which she was a Founding Member. She has single handedly raised over $150,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Dr. Rupa previously also served on the Board of Directors and was the Medical Director for Project Vision Hawaii.
