Are Kids of 2 Working Parent Households Neglected?

A doctor mom reads to her daughter, establishing work life balance

Ever worry if you are short changing your child by working? I love my 3 kids, but I also love being a physician and serving my patients in such a unique way. Balancing work, motherhood and life can feel overwhelming and daunting.

In this episode, I interview my 8 year old daughter, Arya. She offers insight into what it’s like to be the child of 2 working parents. I’ll be honest, I was surprised by some of her answers – I didn’t review them with her at all beforehand!

She has seen me podcasting here in my office and she even wrote her own introduction for her own podcast show.

I thought that her unique perspective, as the kid of a busy 2 surgeon household might allay fears that some of you might have about not giving enough to your kids. And, as you can hear from her answers – I really do think it is about the quality of time you spend with your kids not just the quantity.

When you’re with them – pour into them. Give them your undivided attention. Put your phones and laptops away and make it all about them.

I promise you, they will only be more resilient, aware and independent as a result.
