3 Strategies To Systemize Your Morning Routine As A Working Mom To Reduce Chaos

Listen On

It’s happening again. You’re running late, can’t find your keys, your kid’s iPad didn’t get charged, and you realize you haven’t had breakfast yet. If this sounds like a typical morning in your house, you have to give this episode a listen. I was right there with you, friend. So I want to share with you some tips that I use to help my mornings go smoother and to start mine and my kids’ days off on a better foot. When we’re stressed, it can cause of kid’s to be stressed and we don’t want that to happen before we’re even out the door in the morning! Listen on for my 3 tips to help you systemize your morning and reduce the stress that comes with getting out of the door on time. Here’s the episode at a glance:

(3:44) Creating a habit. Habits are essential to how we function. Charles Duhigg talks about cue, routine, and reward when creating habits.

(5:35) Time and schedule chunking. Chunking your time can give you a time-frame, while still allowing for flexibility within that time frame. I’ll tell you about the 2 “chunks” I use!

(8:20) What gets you in the mood to start your day? In your ideal world, what starts your day off perfectly? It’s quiet time with my journal and a coffee for me.

(12:24) Tip #1- Plan! Work backwards and create a design for your ideal routine- then accept it won’t always happen. Think about the foreseeable obstacles that could get in your way.

(15:45) Tip #2- Prepare! Pack bags the night before, find keys and have them by the door, pack lunches the night before- anything to limit tasks and decisions that will need to be made in the morning.

(19:09) Tip #3- Systemize. Automate things and limit choices. In my routine, we use checklists and timers as well.

I hope you give this one a listen! If you like it, you may also want to check out my episode on the importance of a nighttime routine as well. As always, find me on socials and let me know what tips you use to help your mornings run better! Until next time, it was good to see you.
