You might be using the wrong solution for your contacts!

It's easy to mistakenly believe that it doesn't matter what type of contact lens solution you use. It's the contact lens that's important, right? Just buy whatever is on sale at the bulk store. WRONG!

The type of solution you should be using actually depends on your type of contact lens. 

Hydrogel Contacts Lenses

If you wear a conventional hydrogel lens like Acuvue, Acuvue 2, Fresh Look Colors, B&L Softens and Proclear, then you need solutions that won't cause so many proteins to deposit on the surface. Soft contact lines  absorb components of the tear film; particularly, proteins and lipids (oils). These deposits are associated with increased dryness and discomfort, lid allergies and inflammation, and even decreased vision.  The correct solution will minimize this.  Typical care solutions appropriate for these lenses are: 

• Complete
• Equate
• Kirkland
• Optifree
• Renu

Silicone Hydrogel Contact Lenses

The other main type of soft contact lenses are called Silicon hydrogel lenses.  These are lenses like Acuvue Oasys, Air Optix, Biofinity, and PureVision.  These lenses have different surface characteristics, attract lipids, and therefore require different care solutions. Appropriate care solutions for silicon hydrogel lenses are: 

• BioTrue
• Pure Moist
• Revitalens 

These solutions have novel components to enhance water retention, improve wetting, and reduce oil deposits.

50-80% of soft contact lens (CL) wearers experience symptoms of dryness…burning, stinging, grittiness, discomfort…this can reduce comfort and wearing time.  And, this can be caused from using the inappropriate solution for your contacts.

So, NOT ALL solutions are the same and choosing the best solution for your contacts is crucial for YOUR comfort and ocular health.
